Beijing 2008 Censored?

We are less than a week from the Olympics and we still talk about lots of issues not regarding sports! Can you believe that? There’s the air polution, the Tibet thing, and censorship! Read the following excerpt from a news agency: CHINA REFUSES TO REMOVE INTERNET CENSORSHIP - Protest from human rights and journalistic organizations has proved in vain: censorship of on-line sites deemed “sensitive” by the Chinese regime will stay put, even as far as the upcoming 2008 Olympic Games are concerned. The announcement was made by the Olympic organizing committee, justifying the crackdown on unrestricted internet access to the internet with the violations of the law that the sites targeted would allow. “A limited number of internet sites have been blocked, fundamentally because they violate Chinese laws,” said Sun Weide, spokesman for the Olympic Games organizers, when asked whether the ban would be lifted. “We hope,” he added, “that the foreign mass media will respect our regulations.

So, what do you think? Should the organizers allow unrestricted internet access to the people during the Olympics? Well, as for my opinion, censorship is bullshit! They should at least, allow access to international athletes and journalists who  have nothing to do with this.

  1. Well, Fernando, it’s me, who lives in Meier. I’ve already stayed under censorship, in a situation that I classifie as awful. Pardon me from my English errors, but French, as you know, is may second language.
I thinks it’s an absurd that the Olympic Committee have chose a dictatorial country as China to receive an important event like this, involving the whole world. China will never change. I think it’s easier that it makes the world change under its rules…
    It’s a real nightmare, but it’s true.
These Olympic Games in China are a complete absurd!

  4. Censorship? CNN says their employees can’t blog, Facebook, MySpace, Comment, Chat… if it involves “something CNN MIGHT cover…”
